The Streamer Awards 2023 & 2024
The Streamer Awards is an awards ceremony, following a similar format to popular awards shows such as the Oscars. The 2 events combined amassed a live viewership of over 1,000,000 people across Twitch and YouTube Live.
At the Streamer Awards 2023 and 2024, I operated 4 PTZ cameras on both shows. The objectives between the layouts on the two shows were slightly different but were still effective in creating supportive shots and color for the story.
This image is from the 2024 Streamer Awards hosted at The Mayan in Los Angeles. I had control of 2 PTZ’s hanging down from the first deck. One was rigged in the middle, and the other was on stage right.
This image utilized the suspended PTZ in the center and had it as an overlay on the video during a Genshin Impact sponsored segment.
Throughout various points of banter or live performances, my PTZs were pointed at different content creators in the crowd. Typically, we had the creators mapped out based on the script and each camera had been assigned specific people, but sometimes the shots were more spontaneous.
Since every creator brings a different community, a tight shot of someone can be a big difference in media engagement. A lot of the media I consumed when I was younger revolved around Twitch clips and watching YouTube videos, so I was able to recognize some creators in key moments that would add humor or intense reactions to the show.
During most video clips played at the Streamer Awards, my PTZ shots were placed on the stream for audience reaction in around 6-10 second intervals. Keeping up with the pace felt a lot like juggling. When I moved one PTZ, one was taken, and again, for up to 15 minutes.
This shot of rapper bbno$ pointing at Dan Clancy, president of Twitch, is one of my favorites. I was able to capture this right at the opening of the song when the spotlights slowly faded up.
